Faribault is the county seat of Rice County, Minnesota. It’s motto states: “Small Town Pride, Big City Opportunities”. This is one of the many reasons we love serving Faribault. The city had a population of 23,352 at the time of the 2010 census. The city is about 50 miles south of the Twin Cities area.
The city was named after Alexander Faribault. He was the son of Jean-Baptiste Faribault, a French-Canadian Fur Trader, and Elizabeth Pelagie Kinzie Haines, a member of the Dakotah tribe. Alexander created a trading post at the congruence of the Cannon and Straight Rivers, where the city stands today. Since he spoke the Dakotah language, he was able to create harmonious relationships with natives and settlers. This encouraged more settlers to come to the town, but he also helped the native tribes feel welcome enough that they were willing to resettle the area as well. The Alexander Faribault House was built by Faribault in 1853, and it still stands in its original location in the historic district of Faribault.
The City of Faribault has many parks and recreational facilities including its Faribault Family Aquatic Center that includes pools and large water slides. Its proximity to the Cannon and Straight Rivers make Faribault a great location for watersports such as canoeing and kayaking.
